50+ Men Who Care Contributes to Bloomington Symphony Orchestra
On November 14th, 2018, the 50+ Men Who Care organization voted to donate its fourth quarter contribution to support the Bloomington Symphony Orchestra’s (BSO) educational outreach work, including the Children’s Instrument Recovery Program (ChIRP).
ChIRP, run by BSO volunteers, accepts used instruments, repairs them as needed, and loans them at no cost to local, Monroe County students. The contribution from 50+ Men Who Care will be used to provide much-needed repairs to dozens of string, woodwind, and brass instruments that have been previously donated, but are in unplayable condition. The donation will also help fund other projects, such as side-by-side concerts and the BSO’s Youth Concerto Competition.
WFHB Bloomington Community Radio and the Sycamore Land Trust were also represented in the Quarter 4 meeting, seeking funding to help expand their community outreach efforts and provide capital improvements to their facilities, respectively.
50+ Men Who Care is open to all men who want to make a difference in Monroe County. Members contribute $125, $75 for members age 35 and younger, at each quarterly meeting to the nonprofit selected from the three presentations made and voted on during that meeting.
Each member also pays an annual commitment fee of $100, $50 for members age 35 and younger to the Community Foundation of Bloomington and Monroe County.
The next quarterly meeting will be an open meeting 5:30-7 p.m. February 20, 2019 at the Bloomington Country Club on South Rogers Street. All men from Monroe County are welcome. Literature about the organization will be available at the meeting.
